This week's parsha entitled Chayei Sarah is translated as "Sarah's life." While the title would imply an emphasis of her life, the parshot begins with her death and the ends with the death of Abraham. It is a story about the faith of Sarah, humbleness of Abraham, the wisdom of his dealings with the people of the land, and the continuance of his life after Sarah's death.
This week's parasha is the story of Abraham's visitation by God, himself. It is a stark, bright light shining upon the nature of God and the nature of man. Through man's reasoning and theologies many are blinded from a greater revelation of His character and the faith needed to truly walk in His ways.
This week's Parsha and onward focuses on the lineage of a chosen seed beginning with the lives of Abraham and Sarah. It is replete with example after example of what our Christian walk should be and represent. As we read these passages it is most important for us not to miss this significance among the historical descriptions and the all important Abrahamic covenant.
